Madonna is sampling ABBA?!?!

OK. I’m a Madonna fan. Always have been. From vogueing in the car while driving (you know who you are) to watching my friend Peter’s play using Madonna’s music while interpreting the Bible’s Song of Solomon, I’ve always been a fan. Haven’t been such a fan of her new stuff though. Too… preachy?
So when her new single came out (“Hung Up”) I was curious. Will this renew my faith in Madonna? (Seriously, her version of “American Pie” shook it.) So I’ve been listening to it. I’ve been hearing good reviews of the whole album too. Catchy. Dancey. Those are some of the terms being thrown around about it.
But the hook in “Hung Up” is something I haven’t been able to get over. It’s been driving me nuts! I know I’ve heard it somewhere before! Where was it?
So I searched online. Found one news post about it saying that it possibly contained a sample of ABBA’s Ring, Ring. So I dug up a coupy of that song and listened. No dice.
Last night I was cataloging some new music I’d downloaded for perusal. I’d never been a fan of the A*Teens (something about knocking off ABBA just doesn’t seem right) but I’d picked up a couple of their songs when looking for some dance music.
As I was quickly looking through each track, deciding on if I liked it or not, I happened upon their cover of ABBA’s “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme.” And there it was. The hook from Madonna’s “Hung Up.” So I went to my ABBA songs and played “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme.” Sure enough, there it was, in all it’s glory.
So there it is. For the next person searching for what Madonna sampled on her new song “Hung Up.” It’s “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme” by ABBA.
P.S. I didn’t search extensively for this, so there’s probably 180,000,000 other people who have already said this. So what. 😀
