CD Cover of Damien Rice's 9Ever since I first hear “The Blower’s Daughter” in the trailer for Closer I knew that I was going to like Damien Rice. And then I heard “Delicate” at the end of an episode of Lost and I knew that I was really going to like Damien Rice.

Then I listened to his first CD, O. Wow. Quite possibly one of the best CDs ever.

So I’ve been waiting impatiently for his next CD. It’s been 4 years since O and finally his new CD is out. This is my absolute first impression of it, as I’m just listening to it now. I can say this about it so far:

The first song “9 Crimes” is one of the most hauntingly, despairingly beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. Damien Rice’s voice mixed with Lisa Hannigan is about as perfect a mix as their is. I had to pull my car over just to listen to the song. It inspired a snippet of poetry that came out of nowhere and suddenly was on my lips. I had to dig and dig for paper and a pen to write it down before it disappeared. I got it though. 😀

I’ll keep listening. Even if it’s not as great as O, it will still be amazing.

So MTV turned 25 today. Have any of us ever seen something become such a hilarious caraciture of itself as MTV?

In the words of Lewis Black, “MTV, the company that has done everything it can to ruin music.”

Here, here.

So Happy Birthday MTV. I hope you don’t make it to 30.

OK. I’m a Madonna fan. Always have been. From vogueing in the car while driving (you know who you are) to watching my friend Peter’s play using Madonna’s music while interpreting the Bible’s Song of Solomon, I’ve always been a fan. Haven’t been such a fan of her new stuff though. Too… preachy?

So when her new single came out (“Hung Up”) I was curious. Will this renew my faith in Madonna? (Seriously, her version of “American Pie” shook it.) So I’ve been listening to it. I’ve been hearing good reviews of the whole album too. Catchy. Dancey. Those are some of the terms being thrown around about it.

Scooter LibbySeriously, it’s about time. 11:00 a.m. PST, 2:00 p.m. EST is the time for the press conference today where special prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald will anoounce what’s going on in the aptly dubbed Treason-gate. Could be indictments, could be an extension of the grand jury. Could be everything but the kitchen sink. All I know is that if he announces that nothing is going to happen, the populace will rise up as one and slay him. At least that’s what I hear.

Oh, and the Merry Fitz-mas part I think is a nod to the Stephanie Miller show. Quite possibly the funniest politics show on the radio. Sorry Al Franken, but you don’t have a voice guy who does such a great Bush. “I like toast.”

iPod Video
I must admit, I am lusting after the new Video iPod. My current 10Gb Gen 2 iPod is getting a little long in the tooth.

Now some people (my wife included) wonder why I need a new iPod, or even why I’d want that much storage space? It’s simple. The new generation of iPods are about more than just music.

Hello computer...Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home is one of my all time favorite movies both for its storyline and its humor. But mainly for it’s humor. Who can forget the entire exchange between Scotty and G’vnr Nichols:

G'vnr Nichols: Transparent aluminum?
Scotty: That's the ticket laddie.
G'vnr Nichols: ... But it would take years just to figure out the dynamics of this matrix...!
McCoy: You'll be rich beyond the dreams of avarice.
Scotty: So. Is it worth something? Or should I just...punch up "clear"...
G'vnr Nichols: No!
